| biography:
| Christian disciple. He is described in the New Testament as ‘John whose surname was Mark’ (Acts 12.12, 25), and a helper of the apostles Barnabas and Paul during their first missionary journey. He is often considered the Mark who is accredited in 2nd-c traditions with the writing of the second Gospel, described by Papias (early 2nd-c bishop in Asia Minor) as the ‘interpreter of Peter’. Feast day 25 April. |
