| Soprano, born in Augusta, Georgia, USA. Winning a scholarship to study voice, she graduated from Howard University, and studied further at Michigan. She made her operatic debut in Tannhaüser at Berlin (1969), and in Aïda at both La Scala and Covent Garden in 1972. She has since toured widely at music festivals and concerts, and is widely admired in opera and concert music for her beauty of tone, breadth of register, and mastery of dynamic range. |
