| Stage and film actress, born in London, UK. Starting her career in England, she first acted in the USA in 1930, but not until playing Blanche in the original production of A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) did she begin to be perceived as an American actress. After her marriage (1942) to Hume Cronyn they often appeared together on stage. She won an Oscar in 1989 as the leading actress in Driving Miss Daisy. |
