| Composer, born in Seville, SW Spain. After studying music in Paris, he directed the orchestra of the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. He wrote orchestral music and, notably, zarzuelas, and was one of the main promoters of the genero chico (comic one-act pieces). His best-known works include La boda de Luis Alonso (1897), La gatita blanca (in collaboration with A Vives), and La tempranica (1900). |
