| biography:
| Catalan sculptor, born in Barcelona, NE Spain. He studied at the Escola de Belles Arts of Barcelona and in the workshop of the Vallmitjana brothers. In 1867 he received a grant to study in Rome, remaining there until 1875, after which he entered the Academy of San Fernando. Works to be found in Madrid incude the Mausoleum of General O'Donell, ‘Els Apòstols’ in the church of San Francisco el Grande, ‘Les Belles Arts’, the decorative group in the Prado, and ‘Esfinx’ in the Biblioteca Nacional. On his death the works which remained in his workshop were acquired by the Batlló collection. |
