| Sculptor, born in Fribourg, W Switzerland. He studied at Basel, and was a pioneer of Kinetic Art. He worked in Paris from 1953 onwards, exhibiting his ‘meta-mechanical’ moving metal constructions, sometimes powered by small motors. Some of these clatter and ping, striking bottles or metal pans (musique concrète), and even make abstract drawings, but about 1960 he began programming them to destroy themselves (‘auto-destructive art’). |
