| Critic and film-maker, born in Lyon, SC France. He studied law, then became a film critic and was very influenced by American cinema. His first film, L'Horloger de Saint-Paul (1974) was set in his native city. Later works include Le Juge et l'Assassin (1976) set in the 19th-c, Des enfants gâtés (1977), Autour de minuit (1986) is a celebration of jazz, La Vie et rien d'autre (1989) is an anti-war film, La Guerre sans nom concerns the Algerian war, and L'Appât (1995) based on a real murder case, is a study in alienation. He also makes films for television, including Daddy nostalgie starring Dirk Bogarde and Jane Birkin. |
