biography: Fashion designer, born in Normandy, NW France. The son of a prosperous tanner, in 1907 he joined an uncle who dealt in furs. He opened Maison Parry in Paris (1912), and in 1913 sold his collection outright to a US buyer. After war service, he successfully opened again as couturier in 1919. He was noted for his designs for sports stars, actresses, and society ladies, and for his perfume, ‘Joy’.
