| Entrepreneur who founded Weight Watchers, born in Brooklyn, New York, USA. When she began a diet devised by the Obesity Clinic of the New York Department of Health (1961), she found it effective, but had difficulty in keeping to its guidelines. To help her persevere she formed a mutual support group with several overweight friends, and out of this group grew Weight Watchers International, taken over by Heinz in 1978. |
