| biography:
| Film-maker and critic, born in Tulle, SC France. He taught film at university and was editor-in-chief of Cahiers du cinéma (1957–63). His films include Ma nuit chez Maud (1969), the series Six Contes Moraux (1962–72), and Comédies et Proverbes after 1980, exploring faith, ethics, and social values. In 1990 Les Contes des Quatre Saisons continued his exploration of moral codes. In addition he produced work for television. |
