| French novelist and short-story writer. A teacher of English, his many novels about everyday life include Les Justes causes (1954), Les Battements de mon coeur (1981), and Le Mauvais choix (1984). In 1947 he received the Prix Goncourt for Les Forêts de la nuit. Haute École is a book of criticism and imitations, and Lecture en Liberté is a collection of his written pieces during 1952–90. |
