| biography:
| Rococo painter, born in Paris, France. He studied under his father, Francois de Troy (1645–1730), who sent him aged 14 to Italy, where he later became director of the French Academy in Rome (1738–51). He designed two large series of Gobelin tapestries The History of Queen Esther and Jason and Medéa. He also painted classical subjects, fêtes galantes, and hunting scenes, in a style reminiscent of Rubens. |
