| Artist, born in Le Havre, NW France. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and invented the concept of Art Brut, pioneering the use of rubbish (eg discarded newspapers, broken glass, rough plaster daubed and scratched like an old wall) to create images. He is regarded as a forerunner of the Pop Art and Dada-like fashions of the 1960s. |
