| Pioneer aviator, born in Rotorua, New Zealand. In 1934, in a Gypsy Moth, she broke Amy Johnson's record for the flight from England to Australia by nearly five days. She became the first woman to complete the return journey, and in 1936 made a record-breaking flight from England to New Zealand. |
