| biography:
| Painter, born in Staten Island, New York, USA. He studied architecture, but after travelling in Europe (1847, 1856), he settled in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY (1864), and concentrated on landscape painting. Considered a member of the Hudson River school, his theatrical and naturalistic canvases, such as ‘View of the Kaaterskill House’ (1855) and ‘Autumn on the Hudson River’ (1860), reveal his Romantic approach to nature. |
