| biography:
| Chemist, born in Prague, Czech Republic. He studied at Charles University in Prague, and University College London, where he worked under Frederick George Donnan (1870–1956), who suggested a line of study which ultimately led to Herovsky's discovery of polarography in 1922. He became professor of physical chemistry at Charles University (1926–54), where he continued to develop and improve his discovery and its application. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1959, the first Czech national to gain a Nobel award. |
