| Composer, born in Prague, Czech Republic. He studied at the Prague Conservatory and under Max Reger in Leipzig, was professor of composition at Ithaca Conservatory, New York (1922–6), and settled in the USA in 1939. He wrote theatre music, orchestral works, and four operas, the most famous of which is Svanda Dudák (1927, Schvanda the Bagpiper). |
