| biography:
| Dutch soldier in the service of David of Burgundy, Bishop of Utrecht. In 1482 he had occupied Barneveld, but was besieged there. With his men he hid in the church, and to get a free pass for them, he jumped from the tower. The story, first described in an Utrecht chronicle by the town clerk Tylman Momfelen van Usselaer, has been a favourite one for writers from 1698 onwards; it was used by Antonius Mattaeus in his Analecta and it was the basis of J F Oltman's novel De Schaapherder. |
