| biography:
| Bohemian Hussite leader, born in Trocznov, Czech Republic. He fought against the Poles, Turks, and French, and soon after the murder of Huss, became chamberlain to Wenceslas IV. During the Civil War he was chosen leader of the popular party, captured Prague (1421), and erected the fortress of Tabor, his party coming to be called Taborites. Having lost both his eyes in battle, he continued to lead his troops in a series of victories, compelling Emperor Sigismund to offer the Hussites religious liberty, but he died at Przibislav before the war was over. |
