| Painter, born probably in Louvain, C Belgium, the son of Quentin Massys. An imitator of his father, he worked in Antwerp, becoming Master of the Guild in 1531. He was banished for heresy in 1543, and spent 15 years in Italy. His brother, Cornelius Massys (1513–79), was also a painter. |
