| biography:
| Poet and novelist, born in Bandoeng, former Netherlands East Indies. His first work was a collection of traditional poems Het vreemde land (1951, The Strange Land), but he abandoned his traditionalism and joined the Movement of Fifty. With his sound poem Oote, which raised questions in Dutch Parliament, he became a well-known figure in Dutch literature. In later years he became associated with the group around Barbarber. In addition to poetry, he wrote the autobiographical novel Zonder geluk valt niemand van het dak (1967, Without Luck Nobody Falls off the Roof) in which he described his experiences in mental hospitals. |
