| Poet, literary critic, and journalist, born in Nieuw-Helvoet, SW Netherlands. He had his debut in the magazine De Beweging with romantic-melancholic poems, and after World War 1 he began writing verse in colloquial language. He became friends with Du Perron and Ter Braak and contributed to their magazine Forum. He was a Nonconformist and anti-dogmatic. Important in encouraging young talents in Dutch literature, in 1968 he received the Constantijn Huygensprijs. |
