| Poet, translator, and novelist, born in Ridderkerk, W Netherlands. In 1957 he co-founded with Emmens the literary magazine Tirade. In 1976 Eijkelboom began writing poetry, beginning with Wat blijft komt nooit terug (What Stays Never Returns), which was well received and republished several times. His work displays a sense of melancholy about the past, fear of decay and death, and a longing for genuine happiness. He also translated work by Philip Larkin, Robert Lowell, John Donne, Yeats, and Auden. |
