| biography:
| Writer and politician, born in Kamperveen, NC Netherlands. He studied physics and mathematics in Utrecht, and worked as a researcher before becoming an MP in 1971. He became party leader of the Democraten '66 in 1973 and, under his leadership, the party had some success at the 1977 and 1981 elections, after which he continued his political career holding various posts. As a children's writer he combines suspense with a political message, and literary awards include the Golden Slate Pen (Gouden Griffel) for Koning van Katoren in 1971 and for Oorlogswinter in 1972. |
