| biography:
| Poet and novelist, born in The Hague, W Netherlands. He made his debut with the novel Lente, herfst (1956, Spring, Autumn), but did not receive any recognition until the publication of his collected poems Keefman (1972), in which he addresses human isolation in a very moving way. His work is largely influenced by his time spent in mental hospitals, enabling him to describe human alienation from first-hand experience. On the day his last volume of poetry Lunchpauzegedichten (1974, Lunch Break Poems) was published, he committed suicide. |
