| biography:
| Physicist, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He studied at Southern Methodist and Chicago universities, then worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY. He taught at Princeton (1958–71), then became professor at Chicago University. In 1964 with Val Fitch he demonstrated the non-conservation of parity and charge conjugation in certain subatomic particle reactions. This surprising result is of fundamental interest in particle physics, and they shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1980. |
