| biography:
| Publisher, born in New York City, New York, USA. He was hired as a book-keeper to Nathaniel Currier in 1852, but was better educated in literature and the arts than his employer, and was soon not only overseeing the various artists who produced the original drawings but began making some of his own. He was made a partner (1857), and from then on the name Currier & Ives appeared on hundreds of different prints, posters, and handbills. |
