| Artist and etcher, born in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, NE Scotland, UK. After working in a bank, he left to become an artist, producing his first etching in 1902. Entirely self-taught, he became well known as a master of British etching. He travelled extensively in Europe, N Africa, and America, and was a war artist in France and with the Australian Camel Patrol in Egypt and Palestine during World War 1. |
