| Journalist, born in London, UK. His career began as an office boy for the Weekly News (1935), and progressed to Fleet Street in 1940, working for The Daily Express, Picture Post, and the New Chronicle (1952–60). He became known as a roving reporter on war, poverty, and injustice, renowned for his integrity, dry wit, and concise summaries. He was also a writer and presenter of many television programmes, including Men of Our Time (1963), the intermittent Cameron Country, and the autobiographical Once Upon a Time (1984). |
