| Banker and scholar, born in New York City, USA. He studied at Harvard then entered the family banking business. From 1905 he lived mainly in Germany. With his fortune he founded the Institute of Musical Art in New York City (1905) and a mental clinic in Munich. A classical scholar himself, in 1910 he provided funds for the publication of the famous Loeb Classical Library of Latin and Greek texts with English translations. |
