| Inventor, born in Botetourt Co, Virginia, USA. Taken to Ohio as an infant, he grew up on the frontier and received only intermittent schooling. As a young man he designed, built, and operated a water-powered sawmill near Springfield, OH. Over the years he perfected several improved types of waterwheel, patented two types of cooking stoves, and achieved local fame as a breeder of poultry. |
