| Biochemist, born in Canton, Massachusetts, USA. He studied at Harvard, and became professor of biochemistry at Cornell in 1929. He was the first to crystallize an enzyme (1926), proving it to be a protein, for which he shared the 1946 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. |
