| Mathematician, born in Utzenstorf, WC Switzerland. He had no early schooling, did not learn to read and write until he was 14, then at 18 his extraordinary gift for geometry was discovered. He studied at Heidelberg and Berlin, and became professor at Berlin in 1834. He founded and became the classical authority on modern synthetic (projective) geometry. |
