| Indian founder of the Purva-Mimamsa school of Hindu philosophy, also known as Vkya-sastra, the study of words, from its concern with correct methods of interpreting the Vedas. Little is known of Jaimini himself, but his Mimamsa Sutra emphasizes the need for right action (which presupposes understanding how to acquire valid knowledge) and performing the duties required by the Vedas. |
