| biography:
| French novelist and essayist, from an old noble family of the Auvergne. He had a diplomatic career with Robert Schuman (1948–52), then at the Quai d'Orsay (1952–6), of which elements can be found in La Grande conférence (1953). He wrote initially under the pseudonym of Vincent Laborde. His novels include Le Sel de la terre (1946) and Le Silence et la joie, which received the prix de Romande l'Académie Française in 1957. Among his essays are Foi Jurée, Esprit Libre (1992), and L'Esprit de la foret (1993), and he also published a Journal (10 vols, 1966–83). |
