| Prelate, born in Paris, France. Influenced by his teacher Jacques Lefèvre and the ideas of Erasmus, after becoming bishop of Meaux (1516–34) he set up the ‘cénacle de Meaux’, composed of theologians and humanists, in order to reform the Catholic Church in France. |
