| biography:
| Theologian and philosopher, born in Etaples, N France. He studied classics at the University of Paris. In 1521 and 1523 he was condemned by the Sorbonne for his controversial Biblical commentaries and translation of the New Testament, and in 1528 translated the Old Testament. He was a member of the ‘cénacle de Meaux’ with Briçonnet which advocated reform of the Church. |
