| biography:
| Writer, born in Tilburg, S Netherlands. He studied Dutch language and literature and philosophy, and is a writer of experimental prose. In his work, which may be classified as postmodernist, he uses collage techniques, shifting story perspectives, and a mixture of genres to put the relation between language and reality, and the writer's role in this, up for discussion. Although for years literary criticism has rejected his work as unreadable and overly pretentious, his novel De dood van een meisje van acht (1991, Death of an Eight Year Old Girl) meant a turning point in the critical acclaim for his work. |
