The maker of varied films in which he directs professionals and non-professionals alike with rigour and patience, his works include Un Sac de billes, a story set in 1941 about a small Jewish boy who escapes to the S of France, and Ponette (1996), which produced a remarkable performance from its four-year old star, Victoire Thivisol, who received the best actress award at Cannes. |
