| biography:
| Writer born in Barbezieux, W France. He recovered from tuberculosis in Chardonne, near Vevey, hence his pseudonym. Co-directeur of the éditions Stock, his first novel was L'Epithalame (1921), followed by Claire, which received the Grand Prix de l'Academie Française in 1931. He seemed less inspired after the troubles he encountered during the Liberation, in spite of Vivre à Madère, Matinales (1956), and Demi Jour (1964). His correspondence with Paul Morand is scheduled to appear in 2000. |
