| biography:
| Archaeologist, born in France. He studied at Columbia University (PhD) and taught at New York University (1964–6) and the University of Montreal before joining the anthropology faculty of the University of Pennsylvania (1972–88). His research focused on the beginnings of village farming, technology, and the crafts of SW Asia. He is most often associated with his excavation of an early neolithic ‘hunters' village’, Suberde, in SW Turkey. Among his publications is Tools of the Old and New Stone Age (1970). |
