| Playwright, poet, and novelist, born in Antibes, SE France. He began as a journalist, moving to Paris in 1925 to write for Le Journal and Le Petit Parisien. Influenced by Symbolism and Surrealism, he wrote more than 20 plays on the theme of good, evil, and the supernatural. They include Quoat-Quoat (1946), Le Mal court (1947), and La Hobereaute (1956). He also wrote an essay on the theatre, Abhumanisme (1953). Other works include the poetry collections L'Empire et la trappe (1930) and Race des hommes (1937), and the novels Abraxas (1938), Carnage (1942), Les Tombeaux ferment mal (1963), and Monorail (1964). |
