| biography:
| Priest and publisher, born in Saint-Flour, SC France. He studied theology in Orleans and was ordained in 1824. In Montrouge, near Paris, he set up the Imprimerie Catholique (1836) to publish theological works at a moderate cost. His most notable works were the Patrologia Latina (218 vols, 1844–55) and the Patrologia Graeca (166 vols, 1857–66). The printing house was destroyed in a fire in 1868 and his business was later acquired by Garnier Frères. |
