| Dutch nobleman, Lord of Sint-Maartensdijk, and Count of Oostervant. In 1432 Jacqueline of Bavaria secretly married him without the permission of Philip the Good, so forfeiting all her rights to the counties of Holland, Zeeland, and Hainault. Philip had Van Borsele arrested and imprisoned at Rupelmonde. Jacqueline then gave up her rights in order to save her husband; after his release their marriage was publicly celebrated in church in 1433, but she died in 1436. After her death he continued in the service of Philip the Good and Charles the Bold, and was made a Knight of the Golden Fleece in 1445. |
