| Painter, born in Pontormo, NC Italy. A pupil of Andrea del Sarto and other masters, his works include several frescoes, notably of the Passion (1522–5) in the Certosa near Florence. His masterpiece is ‘The Deposition’ (c.1525), a chapel altarpiece in Santa Felicità, Florence. |
