| Landscape painter, born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. He became a member of the Haarlem painters' guild (1648), and moved to Amsterdam (c.1657), thereafter travelling in Holland and Germany. His best works are country landscapes, and he also excelled in cloud effects, particularly in his seascapes. |
