| Poet, born in Flushing, W Netherlands. He studied theology in Utrecht, where he became a member of the poet society ‘Dulces ante omnia musae’, but began to react against the poetry of the society and the classicist tradition by producing rhymeless verse. His poems show individualism, but are also known for their patriotism. |
