| Labour leader, born in Radomisl, Ukraine. Emigrating to the USA in 1905, he took part in the Hart, Schaffner and Marx strike in Chicago in 1910. A founder of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers (ACWA), he worked as an organizer in the 1930s, served as ACWA secretary-treasurer (1940–6), and then as president (1946–72). |
