| biography:
| Painter, born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He studied art and lived in Europe (1947–56), returned to New York City, and specialized in ragged-edge abstract paintings, such as ‘Black, Yellow, Red’ (1964). He was the designer of stage sets for Jean Genet's Deathwatch (1958), and created stainless steel sculptures and wooden cut-outs (1971–2). From 1982 he taught at New York University. |
