| biography:
| Writer, born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE England, UK. He studied at Beckett Park College for Teachers and the London School of Economics. After army service (1947–50) and various occupations including circus hand (1950–8), he became a teacher and college lecturer. He took up full-time writing in 1970, and became a best-selling author with the success of The Eagle Has Landed (1975; filmed 1976). Later novels include Night of the Fox (1986), Year of the Tiger (1996), and Day of Reckoning (2000). He also writes as Martin Fallon, Hugh Marlowe, and James Graham. |
